***Disclaimer: The book used as a reference for this post is ONLY a reference. Cuddle therapy is not sex work, but some issues that revolve around it are similar to sex work (fear, safety, shame/stigma, anger, and envy).
Even though cuddle therapy is something new here in the States, it first started in Japan 🇯🇵 , which is a country a bit more liberal compared to America when it comes to the areas of cuddling, or even sex work. Japan’s technology and lifestyle is highly focused on technology and also for comfort. I love their culture and how the country functions for the most past. Public napping spots, public restrooms, robots that carry your luggage at the airport, public mug/bottle cleaners, and free water dispensaries. I will visit one day.
When it comes to this industry, I noticed that 5 main topics are always present, which are fear, stigma, shame, anger, and envy (Davina & Gotthelf, 2017). Envy would be the only topic that you would experience from others as a cuddle therapist, but the other 4, either you or others will project.
I have done numerous blogs regarding this industry, and most will never understand it until they start working as a cuddle therapist.
I will touch on fear in this post (I will cover the rest in future posts). If you are a very fearful person, this is NOT for you. People have tried to put fear in me that wanted to cuddle, but never done it before or had a client. I was in the Army and went to war. A lot of things don’t scare me.
You have to do house calls, some hotel(s), but for the majority, house because most cuddle clients are introverted and don’t get out much. If you do go to a hotel, it’s most likely a traveler from another state or country that you are seeing as a client.
When it comes to safety, it’s important to have your cuddle bag strapped and also have some self-defense under your belt. Let your support system know where you are at all times. Text a close friend or family member that can reach you of your location and again, code words are wonderful.

Be safe! 😀
