When you are cuddling with a client, it should always be a SAFE ZONE. I've heard some horrible stories from cuddlees regarding previous cuddle professionals that abused their position. You do not need to be a walking "Me Too" campaign or functioning as a stripper needing her quota before her shift ends. It makes your client uncomfortable and it is unfair to other cuddle therapists new to the industry. Remember, perception is reality.
Cuddling should be a safe and enjoyable experience. When you get a massage or pedicure, do you feel safe and relaxed? If so, that is how a client should feel. We are all grown adults, therefore, state your intentions regarding the session being non-sexual and ask the client what they want to get out of the session. Have candles, music, tea, etc. You want them to feel safe and want them to (hopefully) be a repeat client.
I had an amazing time with a client early this morning! He really wanted a professional that was safe and supportive. We listened to 80's music and shared his life. We also talked about travel, favorite soda, bowling, movies, etc. He discussed some more personal things and I told him don't ever feel you and your life are a disappointment. We all have an amazing purpose in life we must fulfill. I enjoyed our session very much and he extended an extra 30 minutes. : )
He stated his VERY FIRST cuddle session was HORRIBLE! He touched his therapist's waist, and she told him it would be an extra $500! I was appalled hearing this. This woman was a straight opportunist that took advantage of the client and the session. Straight cuddling abuse to the 1,000! Whatever price that was discussed before the session is the price that remains unless the client extends their session or gives a gratuity (tip).
To avoid this issue, let the cuddlee know that he/she has to ask for permission to touch and vice versa. Always ask before you do any touching or positions. Never assume. Again, as I say in my other blogs, if you don't feel safe or feel uncomfortable during a session, you can leave. Respect among the client and for yourself go a long way.
I can't stress this enough, if you aren't compassionate, not empathetic, not a great communicator, not an active listener, and act superficial, THIS INDUSTRY IS NOT FOR YOU! You will meet people all walks of life and must have an open mind.
Happy & Safe cuddling! : )
